Method my Madness: Desk Drawer

So, this is officially my first Method my Madness post, so much (constructive) feedback is appreciated! Since my organization bug has officially kicked in, I have been slowly getting all of my school stuff in order, and the first task on my list was cleaning out the dreaded desk drawer. After years of being in college, I have tailored my drawer o’ stuff to my personal needs as things start getting crazy! There are several supplies that are a must:

   1.   Sticky Notes- I have these in almost every color and size available! They are so so soooooooooo useful for writing notes in my planner, in books, for my husband (Cole). They truly are my second love!
  2.    Highlighters- I use these for scheduling. I normally do not highlight things in books because I sell most of my books back on Amazon after the semester is finished (I will write about the process of selling school books as we draw closer to the end of the year). Each genre (if you will) of my life has a color assigned to it and I highlight it accordingly in my day planner (also for another post).
  3.   Notecards- I am very much a repetitious learner. Flashcards are my saving grace during a tough semester with a lot of memorization. I have tried using electronic notecards in the past, but I think part of my memorization is physically writing it down.
  4.   Paperclips- Enough said!
  5.   Wood Pencils- With my LSAT’s approaching I MUST have these babies on hand! I like U.S.A. GOLD  Natural pencils, they seem to sharpen well and do not have the waxy texture that is difficult to see on paper.
  6.   WiteOut- For when I actually DO write with pen.
  7.    Kleenex- Because I ALWAYS get a cold when mid-terms and finals draw near.
  8.   Mini Stapler- I call mine Hurbert… I do not know why, but we are awfully close!

I organize everything in a utensil organizer that I believe I bought at IKEA forever ago. Here are a couple pictures to wrap your minds around my method.

I take the back off of the sticky notes and stick them to the bottom of the drawer to keep them in place. Surprisingly, everything stays fairly organized and in place throughout the whole semester. Because it is so organized it is really easy to see what I am low on when I do my semi-annual shopping trip for school supplies!

Do you have any MUST HAVES for your desk drawer?

Enjoy your day!

  1. I never thought to use utensil organizers :) The desk organizers you buy never seem to have enough slots or big enough spots for everything you want to put in them. Thanks for the idea!
