Movie Monday

By: Cole

This weeks movie is:

Plot:  A struggling writer (Collin Farrell) becomes caught up in the Los Angeles criminal underworld when his dog-kidnapping friends (Sam Rockwell and Christopher Walken) steal a gangster's (Woody Harrelson) beloved Shih Tzu.

Review:  I have to start by saying that I love the Writer/Director's other film In Bruges, and if you haven't seen it, I highly recommend that you do. This play within a play is very dialog driven but that's not to say it doesn't have a fairly quick pace and plenty of violence.  This diverse cast of outstanding actors really makes their characters come alive, and you genuinely care what happens to them even though none of them are very good people.  Collin Farrell does a surprisingly good job of not being the tough guy and quite a believable drunk.  Sam Rockwell is always hilarious in what ever I've seen him in, however he manages to bring something slightly darker this time.  Christopher Walken plays the perfect geriatric psychopath.  Woody Harrelson is known for playing crazy, and he does it well.  And anytime they add Tom Waits to a movie, it gets extra points in my book.  It's a solid flick with great characters that I definitely recommend going to see it.

Cole' Rating: 9/10
Michelle's Rating: 8/10

Side note:  There was an older couple sitting near us before the film started, and the stupid and shameless plug for Finding Nemo 3D telling you turn off your cell phone came on, as it always does, and they seemed to find it quite cute, which made me wish for something startling and bloody to happen early in the film; it did not disappoint.
