TGIF!

By: Michelle

The other day, I was skimming through documentaries, and I came across a 9/11 film. I can almost spontaneously break down in tears every time I think of that day. I cannot believe what this one day of violence has done to our country, and to many other countries around the world... As humans, we are told that we are more evolved than other animals, but I do not see the difference. As humans are all the same... Black, White, Hispanic, Middle Eastern, Asian, Christian, Islamic, Hindu, Atheist, Male, Female, etc. We are all human, and we all deserve respect. Unfortunately, we have become blinded to the feelings of our fellow humans. Our disrespect and abuse of others have caused so much conflict all over this planet, whether it be in Germany, Russia, China, Japan, Rwanda, Mexico, France, Britain, Afghanistan, Israel, Liberia, and many others, by no means excluding the United States. There are very few instances when people act-out untormented. I am not one that can say I have a strong sense of religion, but I can honestly say that I care for my neighbors, whether they be in the next house over, or halfway across the world. We all share a bond, because we are all the same, and we should love one-another like love is the last emotion we posses. It is time to say "no more," we are done fighting, let not another life be spared. We must forgive others of their wrongdoings, so that we can move forward as a unified world. When others commit wrongful acts, we must rally around them so that they can see the error of their ways, and we must surround them with the love that they were not previously shown, so as to rehabilitate the whole person. Everyone has good within them, and it is our job, as people, to help them seek out that good when they lose themselves.

Martin Luther King Jr. once said that he had a dream; well, I also have a dream: I have a dream that one day, we, as all the people of the world, will come together and realize that it is okay to be different, we can hold different values and moral standards, we can have different religions, and the skin on bodies can be of different tints, but we, as the people of the world, can love each other in spite of all of these things, and we can celebrate our diversity. Some people say that one person cannot change the world, but I don't believe that for a second. One person can open the eyes of billions by simply standing up and saying "no more," and that is exactly what I intend on doing. Are you with me?
