Sunday Six: Studying

By: Michelle

Hello all! I really appreciate all of the support I got on m.myselfinc@yahoo.com! I have started to look into the comment problem, and I will hopefully get everything resolved today so people can start posting comments again! Anyways, I am feeling much better today, and I am ready to move on with the blog!

On today's Sunday Six, I am going to focus on studying. Obviously I consider myself somewhat of a professional after 5 years of college, and a successful three-months of LSAT studying! Here are the six key elements that have kept me going so far:

1. Make a study schedule- Decide, or better yet, ask your professors how much time per week that you should dedicate to studying for each class. Then plug in that amount of time into your calendar for each week. Remember: if you study better in the morning or evening, then make sure you incorporate that into your plans!

2. Be consistent- Stick to your study schedule like you would stick to your work schedule. If you are scheduled to be at work and you consistently don't show up, you will probably get fired. Keep that in mind!

3. Take breaks- I cannot study for more than two hours without taking a break. If I push through that two hour barrier, the quality of studying dramatically decreases. Remember folks: quality or quantity! Don't waste your valuable time on less than adequate studying! I like watching an episode of a funny show, or going for a walk. Anything to clear your head will do!

4. Look ahead- Make sure you know if there are tests or big paper assignments coming up. There is nothing worse than that terrible feeling you get when you are not ready for an exam!

5. Get excited about the material- This is really key! You will learn so much more, and will retain more material if you are really into what you are studying! Your study time will be so much more enjoyable if you are excited about what you are learning.

6. Make it your primary goal to learn about the content, not to memorize facts to regurgitate on an exam- I am guilty of getting caught up in the memorization of material, but if you have made this your goal, then you will not retain what you are learning about, and is that not the real goal of attending college? If you make it your goal to learn, then you will be able to fall back on what you have learned in one class for other classes, for your career, and for life in general.

Hope that helps!!!
