Method my Madness Part 1: What NOT to Wear

So when I head off to school in the morning, it is safe to assume that traffic is going to be CRAZY! In order to make it to class with plenty of time to spare, I need to be very organized. I am a morning person, so I am not worried about the “waking up” part, but I do have a long list of things to do in the morning, so I try to prepare as much as possible the night before. This included making as much of lunch and breakfast as possible the night before (we pack all of our lunches to save money), packing our backpacks/purse, and last but certainly not least, picking out the perfect outfit!

I started laying out Cole’s clothes the night before quite a while ago, but that does not take any kind of brainpower because he wears the same thing to work every day.  However, my outfits are much more at my whim. This is a two part segment on picking out that perfect outfit for school/work. Today I will focus on what not to wear, and then I will address the more difficult part of actually picking a winner!

Here is my method:

1. Check the weather- Since I live in sunny Los Angeles, this is not as much of a concern for me as when I lived in other places (aka: Montana and Colorado). But I still check just in case.

2. Look over your schedule- If you are going to be sprinting from one class to another, it is probably not smart to wear those super-cute-new-pumps that you have been drooling over all summer. Instead, opt for something more comfortable like a nice pair o’ flats or some sandals (even tennis can be cute if worn with the right outfit)!

3. To shave, or not to shave- If you have the time and energy to do some lawn mowing, than maybe it would be a good time to try some shorts, or a cute skirt;  if not, steer clear of these and opt for some jeans or slacks.

4. Light sweater- Since it is so warm in L.A., I am normally wearing a tank or a tee, so I always bring a light sweater for those over-air-conditioned buildings.

Here are my favorites right now:
                   1. Kohls' Apt. 9® Lurex Dolman Sweater. It is now on sale for $21.99!
                   2. Gap's Merino Crew Cardigan. $44.95
                   3. Anthropologie's Emanation Cardigan. $78.00
                   4. Banana Republic's Allison textured cardigan. $69.50
                   5. Victoria's Secret's Slouchy Cable Cardi Sweater. $59.50

Hope that helps!

Do you have a set criteria for picking out (or NOT picking out) clothes? What are some ways YOU save time in the mornings?
