Day In The Life

By: Michelle

Email from blog reader Tessa from Washington State:

Dear Michelle-
How do you manage to keep up with studying, being a wife, blogging, and working? I am trying to get my blog going and I can't find time to do all of the stuff required of me AND do a blog post per day. What does an average day look like for you?
Thanks, Tessa

Well Tessa, this post is just for you! I actually enjoyed recording an average day in the life of me, and I hope others will like this post as well:

5:45 am - 6:20 am

Wake up 15 minutes before my alarm goes off (almost a daily occurrence), grab the clothes I picked out the night before (you can see how I decide upon an outfit here and here), shower, and do all the girly things involved with that (hair and makeup). I do not have time to dry my hair so I brush it strait and let it air-dry (yes, I am extremely lucky to have naturally strait hair)!

6:20 am - 7:00 am

Make breakfast for Cole, and start packing our lunches for the day (you can see how I pack lunches here).

7:00 am - 7:20 am

Wake up my sleepyhead husband by throwing on some Netflix (today it was the latest season of Parks and Recreation; we are loving that show right now), and leaving his breakfast on his desk. He is so spoiled! Then I move back into the kitchen and finish up our lunches, do the dishes, and tidy up.

7:20 am - 7:45 am

Go pick up our neighbors kid and bring him to school. I do this for a little extra cash to put towards tuition and books for school. Cole and I actually work for them quite a bit, and they have basically become a part of our family!

7:45 am - 8:10 am

Get back to the house just in time to steal a kiss before Cole heads off to work. Then I jump right into proofing the morning blog post for the day (I wrote it the night before, so there are bound to be some mistakes that hid themselves from my sleepy eyes), and adding in pictures or links that are needed right before I publish it.

8:10 am - 8:20 am

Make the bed and tidy up the room. Then move into the kitchen to make some magic-get-better tea (compliments to Trina Bizabeth for teaching me how to make this) and a small breakfast for myself (I cannot eat as early as Cole does).

8:20 am - 9:20 am

Eat breakfast and study for the LSAT.

9:20 am - 9:30 am

Pack up everything I need for class and check my email to make sure nothing is cancelled for the day.

9:30 am - 10:30 am

Drive to LMU, and yes, it is L.A. traffic, so I am used to it being like this:

10:30 am - 10:50 am

I get to LMU with 20 minutes to spare, so I sit outside of my first class (Eastern Christian Traditions) and go over my notes from the last class. I must say, this parking lot is the best kept secret (not-so-secret anymore) at LMU!

10:50 am - 12:05 pm

Attend class (Eastern Christian Traditions). This class is normally pretty interesting. The professor is very animated, so it is easy to stay focused.

12:05 pm - 12:30 pm

Go back to my car, drop off my bag, and grab my lunch. There is a lovely little spot that I like to eat lunch at, but today it was infested with football jocks, so I decided to avoid getting hit in the head with a leather ball and moved up campus a bit until I found this nice, quite little park-bench. Lunch today consists of tortellini salad, fresh berries and an apple, homemade granola bars, and a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie.

12:30 pm - 1:00 pm

Work on an upcoming blog post, and brainstorm ideas for future posts.

1:00 pm - 1:35 pm

Drop off my lunchbox back at the car and gather everything I need for the remainder of my classes. Walk to my next class and review my notes.

1:35 pm - 2:50 pm

Attend class (Bioethics). This class is a really great law class, as we do a lot of case reviews.

2:50 pm - 3:00 pm

Power-walk all the way across campus to my next class. If I do not move quickly I will be late!

3:00 pm - 4:15 pm

Attend class (Empirical Research Methods). I have to admit that this is not my favorite class. The professor is very knowledgeable, but very dry. He is quite an adorable old man though!

4:15 pm - 4:30 pm

Walk all the way back across campus to my next class. Although, I do have an extra five minutes, so I don't have to hurry as much!

4:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Attend class (Forced Migration and Refugees in Africa). The professor in this class definitely keeps you awake, which is exactly what I need by this time of the day! I enjoy this class so much, but it definitely kicks my butt in the homework department!

7:00 pm - 8:15 pm

I text Cole to let him know I am on my way home, and grab a copy of the New York Times and read the front page as I walk to my car, then I drive home. This is no easy task in L.A.'s rush hour, but I survive to fight another day!

8:15 pm

Walk in the door to find an amazing husband cooking us dinner, but I only have enough time to steal my second kiss of the day before jumping right into my LSAT study again. Cole brings in dinner when it is finished. I am so spoiled!

8:50 pm

Run to pick up our neighbor's kid from taekwondo.

9:20 pm

Get home and write my blog post for tomorrow while Cole works on reformating the blog's Recipes page! Check out our completely new format here!

10:00 pm

Help Cole with our dinner dishes, and clean out the lunch boxes.

10:20 pm - 10:40 pm

Wash my face and brush my teeth, pick out tomorrow's outfits, and pass out almost immediately after laying down.

So there you have it Tessa! Thank you for your email and happy blogging!
